Big Rick on a soul station?! Well I tried.

Who am I?

A good place to start would be this article from the Oakland Tribune:

'Big' Rick Stuart looms large over Bay Area radio.

Here is a sample:

The East Bay's Big Rick Stuart is a disc jockey.

That's not to say that there is anything wrong with Stuart's personality. He's a warm, friendly and funny man with a large enough personality to match both his moniker and his football-lineman build.

It's just that he didn't get into the business more than 20 years ago to hear himself talk. The Oakland resident got into radio to play music. In a world full of Howard Stern-wannabes, that desire makes Big Rick a refreshing change of pace on the radio dial."

UB40 "King" I forgot about this song. "Signing Off" what a great album.

King audio sample

I read the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) has released a report, using MEDIABASE data, touting the diversity of music on the radio. The NAB report is intended to derail critics that are claiming that consolidation in radio has taken variety out of radio. The NAB report says that over 84,000 different songs were played on the air in 2003, including over 3000 new songs and nearly 600 new artists.

Despite this being kind of being like a fox studying hen house security I thought I'd check it out.

So I went to the NAB site to find it...

The best Howard Dean remix yet! (I think)

Well you know being in radio and loving to audio edit stuff...I had to do it!

So here it is in MP3:

Rob Base, DJ EZ Rock, Howard Dean "It Takes Two" www.bigrick.fm remix

or same thing here

A windows media file from my KFOG FM page.

And a short little thing I did with Apple's GarageBand. It is 30 seconds so it could be an ad for Dean, or um Kerry, or well I guess G.W. even...insert your favorite tag at the end!

Howard Dean Rocks

"It Takes Two" was the first song that came into mind when I was trying to think of a song with a good yelling sample. I love the song. It takes me back to doing Live 105 nights at The Palladium nightclub in San Francisco with DJ Chill and Steve X. It is really one of the best dance/rap songs of all time. Apologies to Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock...

Ya know I did this audio edit and listened to the sound bite over and over while doing it and I think "the speech" really was great. I read what Doc wrote and I really agree.

Dean's passion was great. Just the fact that someone does something so out of step with what media consultants might want them to do makes it stand out even more.

Today I saw a news clip of Dean bagging apples in a clearly staged event, no passion, boring, and it was such a stark contrast to "the speech." If the content of "the speech" was a passionate political point it would have been a real rallying point. I think the content and style didn't match. But I like it anyway. Ted Kennedy does (almost) the same kind of speech (but about issues) and doesn't get (much) crap for it.

I don't think going on Letterman was a great idea, it is like crawling inside the punchline and becoming the joke. Bring on more speeches and less apple bagging.

I think Dean is a really long shot to win now. He'd be a great radio host!

Forbes.com: US lawmakers seek higher TV, radio indecency fines

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers introduced legislation Wednesday to raise fines to as much as $3 million for indecent, obscene or profane language in most network television and radio broadcasts.

Twenty-six lawmakers proposed raising the maximum fine that can be imposed on a broadcaster by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to $275,000 per violation from $27,500, and up to $3 million for continuing violations.

Britney, Beyonce & Pink Battle For Pepsi
January 21, 2004

Beyonce, Britney Spears and Pink will cover the Queen classic 'We Will Rock You' in a new Pepsi commercial, reports Ananova.com.

The sexy trio will collaborate with Queen guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor. A new version of their classic for the commercial will premiere in London later this month, with the girls dressed as gladiators while Enrique Iglesias stars as a Roman emperor.

Pepsi believes it will be one of the most eagerly awaited and much talked about commercials of all time. 'I really love Pink's voice and Britney always has the best performances. It's great to be in the presence of such great artists and entertainers and I've been having the time of my life,' said Beyonce. Pink commented: 'I've never been in a commercial before so just that in itself was pretty exciting to me. I always thought I would never take a can and sip it and go 'aaah' but I'm doing it now so it's pretty funny.' Britney added: 'I'm such a huge fan of Pink and Beyonce. They're amazing artists so to be in their company is very cool!'

"Earth to Rover, over"

Mars Exploration Rover Mission:

Mars Exploration Rover Mission Status

Ground controllers were able to send commands to the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit early Wednesday and received a simple signal acknowledging that the rover heard them, but they did not receive expected scientific and engineering data during scheduled communication passes during the rest of that martian day.

Doc's got a good take and links on the whole Dean thing. In fact he has been on it from the start, covering the internet use by Deanies. Worth a look for his comments and links to cool stuff.

Then there is the growing remix MP3's of "the speech" among them this one:
