Who am I?

A good place to start would be this article from the Oakland Tribune:

'Big' Rick Stuart looms large over Bay Area radio.

(go to the link and scroll down a little)
Here is a sample:

The East Bay's Big Rick Stuart is a disc jockey.

That's not to say that there is anything wrong with Stuart's personality. He's a warm, friendly and funny man with a large enough personality to match both his moniker and his football-lineman build.

It's just that he didn't get into the business more than 20 years ago to hear himself talk. The Oakland resident got into radio to play music. In a world full of Howard Stern-wannabes, that desire makes Big Rick a refreshing change of pace on the radio dial."

The Wave waves goodbye.

from All Access website:

"Sources close to INFINITY World/Rhythmic AC KKWV (93.3 THE WAVE)/SAN FRANCISCO tell ALL ACCESS that a staff meeting has been called for this morning at 10a (PT), presumably to discuss the station's fate. It's being rumored that the station will cease its current programming and simulcast sister AC KBAY/SAN JOSE until a more permanent replacement format can be found for the signal. We're being told that THE WAVE format will most-likely continue, sans jocks, until TUESDAY (9/2), at which time INFINITY will pull the plug and begin the simulcast."

And so it was and so it is gone as of today.

Westerns Channel Begins Production on Original Documentary Focusing on Western Films of Legendary Director Sam Peckinpah:

"Sam Peckinpah was in many ways ahead of his time,' says Black. 'Like John Ford before him, he became synonymous with the Western genre, albeit of a particular flavor. And like Alfred Hitchcock, he became a famous -- if not infamous -- personality that resonated far beyond the films themselves. His influence is still felt strongly today. When people hear the name Peckinpah, many immediately recall his notoriety for on screen violence. But much less known is what a dynamic and truly talented filmmaker he really was. Peckinpah's career is now ripe for reappraisal, and Encore's original documentary will endeavor to take viewers on a journey in rediscovering the man and myth, and the gift of the timeless Westerns he left behind."

Roger Freidman at Fox News, the BEST entertainment writer and a daily must read for me, on last nights VMA:

FOXNews.com: "Otherwise, the VMAs were the usual sad, illiterate affair, full of yo's from a bunch of yo-yos. 50 Cent and Beyonce looked confused among their June Taylor-type dancers. Nearly all the music sounded like it had been made up on the spot, although even host Chris Rock looked impressed at the end of Coldplay's song. Combining elements of The Beatles, Travis and Radiohead, Coldplay's Chris Martin performed the only actual song of the evening with a melody, harmonies and a hook."

BTW I thought Metallica's jam was cool, but to me they can do no wrong. "Yo's from a bunch of Yo-Yo's"...what a line.

You know his themes, they're all cool.

Yahoo! News - Concert Review: Lalo Schifrin: "LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - It's been a good 40 years since he played a club in L.A., Lalo Schifrin told his intimate audience in the stalwart heart of Hollywood, and he might have said it's been a very good 40 years indeed since he left Dizzy Gillespie's sextet for an opulent career scoring other people's films and conducting symphony orchestras in his own brilliant works."

Films by Lalo Schifrin:

* The Cincincati Kid
* Cool Hand Luke
* The Fox
* Bullitt - the famous car chase in San Francisco uses no music, but the Bullitt theme music is well-known from the UK car advert with Steve McQueen
* Coogan's Bluff
* Hell in the Pacific
* Kelly's Heroes - also acting as musical director, and includes a song
* The Beguiled - another Clint Eastwood film, with a little martial music marking the civil war, and some subtle psychologicial music for the character interplay
* Dirty Harry 1, 2, 4, 5 - known as "Dirty Harry", "Magnum Force", "Sudden Impact", "The Dead Pool", No.3 "The Enforcer" had music by Jerry Fielding
* THX 1138
* Joe Kidd - another Clint Eastwood film, with music a bit like a pop spaghetti western
* Enter the Dragon
* The Eagle has Landed
* Voyage of the Damned
* Charley Varrick - typical Schifrin with bass and percussion and mood-setting tunes
* The Cat from Outer Space
* The Amityville Horror 1, 2 - the sequel being called "Amityville 2:The Possession"
* Brubaker
* The Competition
* Caveman
* Airplane 2: The Sequel - a song for this
* The Sting 2 - but original music and adaptation, with an Oscar nomination for Schifrin
* Return to the River Kwai - yet another sequel!
* F/X2: The Deadly Art of Illusion - Bill Conti did number 1
* Mission Impossible - the re-used and updated theme within the Danny Elfman soundtrack
* Rush Hour 1, 2 - easy action and plenty of hints to the Hong Kong/L.A. Chinatown locations

TV themes by Lalo Schifrin:

* Mission Impossible - the original cult series which has now spawned two movies
* Mannix

You simply do not need ten. The list of ten commandments was artificially and deliberately inflated to get it up to ten. Here's what happened:

Music Industry Unveils Tracking Methods

By TED BRIDIS, AP Technology Writer

WASHINGTON - The recording industry provided its most detailed glimpse to date Wednesday into some of the detective-style techniques it has employed as part of its secretive campaign to cripple music piracy over the Internet.

The disclosures were included in court papers filed against a Brooklyn woman fighting efforts to identify her for allegedly sharing nearly 1,000 songs over the Internet. The recording industry disputed her defense that songs on her family's computer were from compact discs she had legally purchased.

Not taking a stand, just wondering.

They removed the statue. People want it back.

Does this violate the 10th Commandment?

"Do not desire another man's house; do not desire his wife, his slaves, his cattle, his donkeys, or anything else that he owns" (or statue?)

The report on the Columbia shuttle is out.

Where were you when you heard? I was at the starting line at the Hollister National Hare Scramble motorcycle race. It was just about time for the Senior C race to start. I was really excited to ride my KTM 380 MXC motorcycle. I had spent weeks prepping it, checking everything, new tires, wheels trued, everything.

I rode down with my friend Rob who teaches middle school in P-Town. He and I are geek fans of the Space program. I know I can pick up the phone before, during, or after, a shuttle mission and we can talk about it like the weather. I can watch NASA TV for hours during a mission. All the way down we talked about the Columbia mission and landing. How it flew over San Francisco and how we were excited to hear about the landing and final result of the projects on board.

Rob had a personal connection. One of his students has a good friend from NASA who was on board. Kalpana Chawla had invited his student and family to see the launch. They went and had a great time. Kalpana Chawla was going to try to visit Rob's school a few weeks after she returned. Rob had talked to his students about the mission and had them totally involved on a day to day basis. They knew all about the Columbia shuttle.

We swapped stories and talked only about the Shuttle all the way down the ride from Oakland to Hollister.

We listened to some cd's while we unloaded my bike and I got ready for the race. I rolled up to the line and we had a brief riders meeting about the course from the track officials. I saw some friends and everybody was full of pre race bs'ing, All smiles and lots of fun.

As is a tradition at most of these races a member of Riders Under The Sun (RUTS) said a prayer over the PA. It is the last thing before the starting gun fires. His first words were stunning. He mentioned in our prayers were the crew and family of the Columbia space shuttle. His words were that we had lost the shuttle earlier this morning.

What? What does that mean? I asked some riders around me. They hadn't heard about it. Lost? Like they will find it again? The radio went out? It couldn't have crashed.

Within a minute the race started. I was on the 3rd wave, hundreds of bikes no time to think or ask questions. I tried to put it out of my mind and clicked down to go. My shift lever fell off in the dirt. A spectator helped me get it back on. I was 20 minutes late from the start and in no mood to ride. I did one slow lap, let the leaders pass me, and came in.

Rob had been reading a book. He asked why I was in so early. I told him what I had heard on the starting line. We turned on the radio and sat.

We got home in the early afternoon and watched NASA TV. We saw the NASA press conference. It was awful.

Rob had just started getting his application for the Teacher In Space Program. He would be a great teacher for the program. Kalpana Chawla was going to try to help. The Teacher In Space program is still in progress. Earlier this year he sent in his application.

Today he sent me a copy of part of an email he received from NASA:

"Thank you for your application for the Educator Astronaut Program.
The next step in the selection process is..."

Maybe a teacher from P-Town will get to fly.

f-ing foam.

A and F own 22. Or think they do.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Abercrombie & Fitch says its chain of Hollister stores owns the number 22.

The New Albany-based company has sued rival retailer American Eagle Outfitters, seeking to prevent it from using the number on its clothing.

The lawsuit filed in Columbus federal court asks a judge to order American Eagle to stop using 22 on its clothing and advertising, to destroy any clothes or ads that use the number and to give Hollister any profits from clothes already sold.

Wesley Willis Dead Remember those "Rock Over London, Rock Over Chicago" songs? We would play one about riding the bus at Live 105 back in the Web Fingers days...

From the Alternative Tentacles web site and linked to the blog with the sad news:

Dear Friends and fellow Wesleynauts,
We are deeply saddened to report that one of our artists, Wesley
Willis passed away yesterday, Thursday, August 21st. Wesley will be
greatly missed by all that had the privilege to know him, as well as
the fans who have been fortunate enough to experience his genius.

His songs were simultaneously disturbing, hilarious, blunt, and
intoxicating. Wesley's sheer excitement and unaffected honesty about
every cultural phenomenon, defined his music as truly individual, and
truly punk rock.

Wesley released well over 50 albums - 3 of which are on
Alternative Tentacles, and a 4th, entitled, Wesley Willis Greatest
Hits Vol. 3 (CD) had already been scheduled for release in October of
this year."

Don Imus wears these stethoscope Sennheiser HD2-26 and I just got a pair. The advantage? Well it is an "in ear" style so I don't have to run them as loud and they look really comfortable.

The new flavor will be launched officially at most of 7-Eleven's 5,300 U.S. stores Friday, although it has been available in many stores for a few weeks.

The retailer sells 13 million Slurpees a month and believes it can increase that total by 12 percent to 14 percent with Diet Pepsi and a lineup of other reduced-calorie flavors. Slurpees represent a small fraction of 7-Eleven's total sales

Cycle News Online: Harley-Davidson has released information on its 2004 models, and an all-new Sportster family is the big news as the Milwaukee-based Motor Company rides into its second century.

Dropped from seven models to four, the new Sportster family boasts an all-new engine and a new rubber-mounted chassis. While still retaining the XL moniker, the Sportster engine shares many technological improvements that first appeared on the Buell XB9 engine in 2003. These include better cooling thanks to larger cooling fins on the cylinders and an oil jet system that shoots oil at the bottom of the pistons to further reduce the temperatures. Other internal changes include new flywheels, and lightweight pistons and connecting rods. As their name implies, the base XL883 Sportster 883 and the XL883C Sportster 883 Custom retain their 883cc displacement, but both make more power, with Harley-Davidson claiming a crankshaft rating of 53 horsepower at 6000 rpm and a peak torque figure of 51 foot-pounds of torque at 4300 rpm. The 1200cc engine is claimed to produce 70 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 79 foot-pounds of torque at 3500 rpm. All 2004 Sportsters utilize a new exhaust system that hides the crossover pipe.

I'm catching up on my motorcycle news, new models being announced etc. Thought I'd share some stories. Have a read, pick out a pretty one, fire your shrink, shut up and ride.

BW Online | August 11, 2003 | Motorcycles: When Speed Meets Comfort: ...These days, that same generation is rekindling its romance with the road, and bike sales are growing by double digits, headed back toward their peak. Take Francesco Quinn, who has bought two bikes in recent years. For Quinn -- who followed the footsteps of his famous father, Anthony, into the film industry -- the open road is complemented by the intimacy it promotes with his wife on trips through southern California. 'We share more in a day [of riding] than most couples share in a year,' says Quinn, who owns six bikes.

Then there's Daniel Vasella, the 49-year-old chairman and CEO of Swiss drug giant Novartis (NVS ) who started riding as a teenager. Today he takes his BMW (BMW ) K1200RS around the lake near his home in Zug, Switzerland. It's a break from the daily grind, he says, and 'it gives me a chance to meet people I wouldn't ordinarily.'

Biggest Displacement Standard Production Cruiser Introduced by Triumph Motorcycles
Tuesday August 19, 5:35 pm ET
Triumph's Legend Continues to Grow: New 2.3 Liter (140 Cu. In.) Cruiser Unveiled in America

SAN ANTONIO, Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Ending months of speculation Triumph Motorcycles (America) Ltd., unveiled Triumph's new power cruiser -- the Rocket III -- in San Antonio, Texas, during the annual US dealer conference. It is the biggest production motorcycle currently being built. There isn't a benchmark or limit that hasn't been exceeded. The first production motorcycle to break the 2-liter barrier, the potency of this powerful new machine is captured perfectly by its name -- the Rocket III. But make no mistake, the Rocket III is not just another motorcycle; it's the ride of a lifetime.

Photo: here

As the name alludes and paramount among the cruiser fold, the Rocket III is powered by a triple cylinder engine, an engine format that Triumph has distinctively engineered for today's performance enthusiast. Its fuel-injected, longitudinally-mounted, in-line three-cylinder engine has a cubic capacity of 2,294cc -- 140 cubic inches -- and uses the same size pistons as a Dodge Viper(TM).

The Rocket III produces more peak torque than two of almost any other production motorcycles combined. To be precise, a whopping 147ft.lb torque at 2,500 rpm, with 90% delivered at a mere 1,800 rpm. This stunning triple digit number means, two-up, it will accelerate faster than just about anything else on two wheels. Pulling 1.2g in the process.

The U.N. human-rights charade - The Washington Times: Editorials/OP-ED: "The U.N. human-rights charade

It is not exactly breaking news that the United Nations does as much harm as good on the world stage. The world body's history of coddling tyrants at the expense of democracies long ago eroded most of its claim to the moral high ground. This summer, we have new evidence to remind the world of the folly of assuming a moral equivalence of all governments. Under pressure from Cuba and Libya, the U.N. Economic and Social Council suspended all cooperation between its Commission on Human Rights and Reporters Without Borders. The problem is that the latter took a stand in defense of human rights. Only at the United Nations could Tripoli and Havana have such persuasive ability."

Last weekend I did a 3 day trip to Foresthill. I only rode 1 day on Saturday. The rains I had heard about in the sierras have not hit the area as it was really dry. The water crossings were only inches deep. That did not mean it wasn't fun. I had a great time riding some of the trails. For me 1, 2, and 3 were all fun. 4 is really rocky as always, and I only rode part of 5 as it was really dusty and had lots of silt. The OHV staging areas were about 1/2 full with a mix of quads and bikes. I saw just a little bit of traffic on the trails. We had the most fun on 1.

It had been a long time since I had ridden in trees like that. My 380 MXC was fine chugging along in 3rd, and if I wanted to pick up the pace I could click down to 2nd.

I did not see any rangers checking for sound or green/red stickers.

Why only 1 day of riding? Well I only had a riding partner one day on Saturday, plus Friday was spent getting there, close to 4 hours from Oakland to the campground. Then Sunday I relaxed at my campsite. The return trip Monday morning took less than 3 hours.

Friday night I went in to Auburn to the Speedway motorcycle races, man that is fun to watch. They used to have it down here at Fremont and in Napa on Saturday nights. It was cool.

I camped at Morningstar at Big Reservoir. I really like that place, especially the hot showers! You can swim and fish in the water, and have a peaceful time in the woods. If you don't want to stay there you can get a day use pass and hang out. Since I don't have an RV to stay in it is the best choice for me. You are not allowed to ride in and out of the campground on the bike, you can push out the gate to the forest road or I just leave the bike in the truck and drive to the staging area.

If you have never been:

The Foresthill OHV area is at the far west edge of the Tahoe National Forest. It is at about 4000 ft. There is a marked trail system for quads and bikes. Some trails are for bikes only. The trails are all 2 way. Most of it runs in trees and can get a little tight handguards are a good idea.

Foresthill has nearly 100 mile OHV trail system suitable for both motorcycles and quad runners. There is little or no four- wheel country on the District. The trail system is mostly easy to moderate routes, with a few miles of difficult, challenging trail to suit riders of all skill levels.

In some cases, the trails cross paved roads.

To get there exit at Foresthill road in Auburn. The ranger station is near the town of Foresthill and has maps. There are supplies in the town as well. Continue 9 miles past the town of Foresthill and just after a sign for the Tahoe National Forest turn left on Sugar Pine Road. Staging Areas to access the trail system are located at Parker Flat/Sugar Pine Staging, on Sugar Pine Road.

There are 2 OHV staging areas along this road, both have toilets and camping areas. It's free to camp there and spend the night. Morningstar campground is just past the OHV staging areas.

China Wall Staging area is located approximately 16 miles east of Foresthill on the Foresthill Divide road, and is the best access for loops 5 and 6, which are motorcycle only. During winter, China Wall is a good place for snowmobile staging.
